Lithuania, officially known as the Republic of Lithuania is a country variably said to be part of Eastern or Northern Europe. Located on the south-eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, sharing boundaries with Latvia on the northern side, Belarus one the southeastern side, Poland and Russia on the southwestern side. Lithuania belongs to the NATO and the European Union as well.

In 2009 Lithuania will celebrate a thousand years of its name.
