Catania : definitely worth visiting

Catania is a city on the eastern coast of the island Sicily, situated between Messina and Syracuse in Italy. With a population of over 700,000 it is the next to largest city on the island. Ever since the eighteenth century, Catania has been the second main city of Sicily, superseding Messina in that respect. Catania has been damaged by lava flows and earthquakes several times.

Catania is definitely worth visiting. The two huge street markets are mostly interesting, and the churches and palaces have a distinct Baroque aura about them. Catania is a good hub for making connections to other places if you're traveling either by train or by bus. Buses for Etna, the airport, Palermo and several other towns nearby depart from the piazzas close to the train station. You will find that there are many different bus lines with offices at the main square. Fontanarossa Airport is just 20 minutes away from Catania. There are train departures for Taormina, Syracuse, Messina and the mainland pretty frequently.

Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) is situated five kilometers or 3 miles south of Catania. The CTA is the most busy airport in Sicily and the 5th busiest in the whole of Italy with 6,083,735 passengers in 2007, but for domestic traffic it ranks at 3rd place, after Leonardo da Vinci and Linate Airports. So as to accommodate the increasing number of passengers, a new terminal, having 20 gates and 6 loading bridges, was opened on May 8, 2007 replacing the old facilities, but a further expansion of the terminal area already seems unavoidable. An airport shuttle bus service provides transport into Catania city centre and the Central Train Station, while scheduled bus services to other parts of the island are also available direct from the airport.

Airlines like the KLM Royal Dutch provide you with online booking, unusual offers, flight schedules, airline fares and frequent air travel program. To locate all European low cost airline fares in one place, just go on the Net. Have you been on the lookout for cheap international airfare to Catania? You can save you as much as fifty percent off on standard published airfares.
